Mile Hi Foods History

Mile Hi Frozen Foods Co. is the evolution of a company called Mile Hi Fruit & Vegetable Company. Mile Hi Fruit & Vegetable was founded in 1946 as a supplier of fresh produce to all types of restaurants in the Denver area.

In 1956 the first McDonald's Restaurant was built in Denver on Colorado Blvd. At that time Mile Hi was only delivering 100 pound sacks of fresh potatoes for French fries to that McDonald's store. As time went by more and more items were added to the list of foods provided by Mile Hi such as syrups, pickles, and shortening. In 1974 Mile Hi Frozen Foods Co. was incorporated as a separate business to place more focus on the McDonald's businesses throughout Colorado.

In 1985 Mile Hi moved into a new facility and became the exclusive distributor for all of the food, paper, and refrigerated items used by McDonald's Restaurants. Part of the new facility contained a "state of the art" bakery, which provides the Buns for both Mile Hi and for Martin Brower's Salt Lake City Center.

Mile Hi now services over 300 restaurants in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Mile Hi Frozen Foods 8-state territory covers the largest geographical distribution area in the continental U.S. Some of the stores are over 800 miles away from the center. This requires an extensive trucking and backhaul operation, which allows Mile Hi to create additional revenue to reduce the cost to the McDonald's System..

Mile Hi Frozen Foods Co. is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, distribution companies serving the McDonald's System. It is a single center located in Northeast Denver and independently owned by the Taddonio family.

Mile Hi Specialty Foods, Inc. was formed in 1997 to begin delivering to what became the first of the McDonald's "Partner Brands," Chipotle.ÊWhen Mile Hi Frozen Foods Co. moved into its newest facility in 1999, Mile Hi Specialty Foods took over a portion of the existing facility.ÊIt has since grown to continue to service more of the McDonald's partner brands, Chipotle and Boston Market, and to service other restaurant concepts as well, such as Starbucks and Einstein Brothers' Bagels. The needs of each of these concepts are distinctive and Mile Hi Specialty Foods has expanded their fleet, refrigeration system, and warehouse square footage to fulfill the needs of each customer. In addition, Mile Hi Specialty Foods has several non-restaurant customers, for which we distribute Hot Dog and Hamburger Buns.ÊEach bun is created by individual customer specifications in the Mile Hi Bakery, allowing Mile Hi Bakery to provide hamburger buns for Red Robin nationally and for Good Times locally. Today, Mile Hi Specialty Foods continues to function as a consolidated distribution center that provides specialized services to various, innovative restaurant chains within the Rocky Mountain Region, from Pueblo to Cheyenne.ÊThe Mile Hi Frozen & Specialty Foods Companies thrives in its efforts to recognize the specific requirements of each customer and to cater to each customer's uniqueness.
